Lesson 5 - Story Arcs and Structure

Note: The assignment at the end of this lesson is best completed once you've been through Lessons 2 and 3.

When writing a story, you can literally do whatever you want in terms of plot. There are no real rules. However, there are some principles of creating stories that should be looked at: most stories in existence that have a plot follow the principles I will be discussing in some form or another. Lesson 4 - Symbolism

Symbolism is fairly simple, but is rarely utilized by writers who are just starting off. Some people feel it is pretentious, some people don't understand it, and some people don't care or haven't really thought about it. Whether you like it or not, it's good to understand the uses of it because it can become a very useful literary tool.

We where talking while we walked along the road.
'do you think it's still far?', she asked.
'no',i answered, 'according to the map, we are very close. Just a few more kilometers.'

The sounds of the birds in the early morning pleased my ears. Nothing told me something bad could happen.
A small snap in the bushes, followed  by a scream woke me up out of my daydream.
I suddenly was pushed down, and couldn't get up.
As i opened up my eyes i closed to protect myself, i realised i and aya ran into a trap. A thick rope with weights attached kept me against the ground.
From behind  a tree appeared a black clad person.

     I looked at the humanoid girl sitting across from me. "So," I started awkwardly, "Like Colonel said, I'm Corporal William Lewis. How active is this group? I'm seeing only one clan with points? Is that the only one people join or what? Wondering about it before I try to join.

We're still alive! O.o (One can definitely be forgiven for thinking differently though hehe) All clans are open, but for some reason only the students in Corvidae are active ^^; that's why only they have points. We're mostly waiting for teachers to finish their lessons, but in the meantime Literature, Colour theory and Coloured Pencil as well as Black and White and BYAB are open.... I think that's it for now.

Yes, I've looked through the classes. Tomorrow, I will look through them more extensively and make choices on which I'd like to do since it's late here. =3 I like practicing everything, so it can be a tough choice, but finally choosing can make me feel less overwhelmed. Gah. Circles! Glad to hear this group is still active though. It's been the only one I can find on dA like it that is so extensive. I haven't looked for too long though. Just overall well done. =]

If it helps you at all, I'm fairly sure that BYAB and Literature will remain open pretty much forever, but BYAB is completely free to be done whenever. =)
